Research Position is available at Gene Center in Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, Germany for students with strong interest in molecular genetics and biochemistry. The Project involves studies of regulation of gene expression in Drosophila development, using a combination of molecular genetic, biochemical, and computational approaches. The Research technician will focus on the mechanisms of protein-DNA interaction at enhancer/promoter elements and the integration of extracellular signals into transcriptional protein complexes.
Applicant Profile: Education as CTA/BTA/MTA or similar and experience in industry or academic research, particularly in molecular genetics and biochemistry. Must have excellent technical and multi-tasking skills, an enthusiastic approach towards new techniques, and the interpersonal skills to work within a diverse team of scientists.

Duration: Three years.
Essential Qualification :
MSc in Wildlife Science/Life Science/Zoology/ Botany/Forestry/Environmental Science or Veterinary Science, with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.
Desirable Qualification :
Research experience in wildlife specially carnivores, preferably tigers. M.Sc. dissertation on a relevant topic with experience in use of telemetry. Exposure to techniques of camera trapping, distance sampling, mark-recapture population estimation, sign surveys, occupancy modeling, habitat use analysis, ability to work on GIS is desired.
The candidate should be able to stay on a boat for several days and know swimming.
Description of Work:
The research involves estimating and monitoring the population of tigers and prey populations in the Sundarbans. Modern technological tools like satellite and GPS telemetry will be used to study habitat use, ranging patterns, behaviour and dispersal of tigers.
Age Limit:
Candidate for the position of RAs should be below 40 years of age and the upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years for candidates belonging to SC/ST. For JRF/TA, the age shall not be more than 28 years as on 25th September 2009.
Upper age limit for JRF/TA may be relaxed up to 5 years, as in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Women and physically handicapped categories.

Description of Work The project aims to study ecology of sloth bear, human-sloth bear conflict and management aspects in Jessore wildlife sanctuary and Mount Abu wildlife sanctuary. Information on land cover, landuse, vegetation composition and structure, den distribution, habitat, food habits and ranging pattern of sloth bears, impacts of biotic pressures, and socio-economic impacts of menace on rural community will be collected. Sloth bear proof power fencing will be developed.
