The WII wishes to engage nine (09) research fellows [01 Research Associate (RA), 07 Junior Research Fellows (JRF) and 01 Technical Assistant (TA)] through a Walk-in-Interview on Tuesday, 29th September 2009. Project # 6 Development & maintenance of studbook for selected endangered faunal types in Indian zoos.
TA – 1 Post
Duration: One year.
Essential Qualification :
Masters degree in Zoology/Life Science with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.
Desirable Qualification:
Candidates with functional knowledge of computer operation/software will be preferred.
Description of Work :
The project involves collection and computation of pedigree data of selected species from various identified zoos across country and would involve field visits.
Assist in maintenance and updation of studbooks of select endangered faunal types as per project requirement.
Age Limit:
Candidate for the position of RAs should be below 40 years of age and the upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years for candidates belonging to SC/ST. For JRF/TA, the age shall not be more than 28 years as on 25th September 2009.
Upper age limit for JRF/TA may be relaxed up to 5 years, as in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Women and physically handicapped categories.
Stipened:
Selected candidates for the position of Research Associate (RA) will be paid consolidated emoluments as per the norms of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India depending upon professional qualifications and experience in any one of the following categories
RA-I (Rs.16,000/month),
RA-II (Rs.17,000/month);
RA-III (Rs.18,000/month).

Project # 1 Research Laboratory.
RA -1 Post
Duration:
Initially for a period of one year.
Essential Qualification :
Ph.D degree in Zoology/Botany/Wildlife Sciences/Environmental Sciences/ Forestry/Experimental Biology/Biological Sciences/Life Sciences/Social Sciences from a recognized University.
Those who have published their work in peer reviewed journals and shown evidence of capability to do independent research work will have a preference.
Desirable Qualification;
(1) Adequate experience from any reputed laboratory in using advance analytical techniques for plant, animal, soil and water samples.
(2) Experience in handling and maintenance of various laboratory analytical equipments (AAS, HPLC, UV-VIS Spectrophotometer etc.) and operational knowledge of various computer software(s).
Description of Work:
The work involves field visits and laboratory analysis for plant, animal, soil and water samples and also teaching advanced analytical techniques.

Project # 8 A study on sympatric carnivores (tiger, leopard and wild dog) in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, Tamil Nadu, India.
JRF – 1 Post
Project Duration:
Up to January 2011.
Essential Qualification :
Masters Degree in Wildlife Science/Forestry/ Environmental Science from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks.
Desirable Qualification:
Experience in prey and predator population estimation, GIS and Remote Sensing, quantification techniques and computer knowledge.
Description of Work 1.:
To estimate density, distribution, group size and composition of prey species of sympatric carnivores (tiger, leopard and dhole). 2. To study the food habits and prey selectivity of sympatric carnivores. 3. To estimate the population of the sympatric carnivores. 4. To study the distribution of sympatric carnivores and their prey species with specific reference to anthropogenic pressure 5. To develop conservation action plan for these sympatric carnivores.

Appointments in this programme are offered from Assistant Professor and upwards at various levels depending on the quantum of experience and the quality of the scientific productivity.
