Postdoctoral Position – Diagnostic Optical Spectroscopy – Cleveland
Postdoctoral Position in Diagnostic Optical Spectroscopy at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio.
Postdoctoral Position in Diagnostic Optical Spectroscopy is available in the laboratory of Dr. Maryann Fitzmaurice in the Department of Pathology, School of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. The research focus of the laboratory is development of novel, cutting edge techniques and instrumentation for real time, in vivo, disease diagnosis and imaging in humans using optical spectroscopy.
The successful candidate will conduct experimental and theoretical research on optical spectroscopy (primarily Raman, but also fluorescence and diffuse reflectance) of breast cancer. The research includes both laboratory and in vivo clinical testing of cutting-edge spectroscopy instruments and data analysis techniques developed for breast cancer diagnosis and imaging. The research will be conducted in collaboration with Professor Michael Feld at the G.R. Harrison Spectroscopy Laboratory and Laser Biomedical Research Center, MIT, Cambridge, MA. The candidate must be willing to work both independently and in an interdisciplinary team of physicists, chemists, engineers and clinicians. There are opportunities to work and interact with research groups in other universities and industrial partners. Occasional travel is required.
Who can Apply?
- Ph.D. or equivalent degree in experimental pathology, physics, chemistry, engineering or related field with experience in Raman spectroscopy, preferably in biological applications.
- Previous hands-on experience in optical instrumentation, microscopic spectroscopy and chemometrics is preferred. The candidate should be comfortable with standard mathematical and laboratory software such as MATLAB and LabVIEW.
- Previous postdoctoral experience will be considered favorably.
