Postdoctoral Positions – BBSRC Funded Project – University of Oxford
Postdoctoral Positions in BBSRC funded project at University of Oxford.
Applications are invited for two 3-year postdoctoral positions (one biochemist and one molecular biologist) on a BBSRC-funded project, Tonoplast transport as a determinant of tomato fruit chemical composition, led by Dr Lee Sweetlove and Prof. Andrew Smith, Department of Plant Sciences, University of Oxford. The flavour and nutritional quality of tomatoes are determined by the metabolites that accumulate during fruit ripening. This project will test the hypothesis that the activity of transport proteins at the vacuolar membrane is a major determinant of final solute content in ripe fruit. The project will use proteomic and genetic approaches in combination with measurement of tomato fruit tonoplast transport properties to identify membrane proteins that control the accumulation of major carboxylic and amino acids.
Who can Apply?
Biochemist – Postdoctoral Position (Post Ref. No. AP09011)
- Research skills and expertise in (i) membrane / organelle isolation (ii) membrane transport assays (iii) protein biochemistry (iv) proteomics (v) metabolite analysis.
Molecular Biologist – Postdoctoral Position (Post Ref. No. AP09012)
- Proven research skills and expertise in at least one of the following areas: (i) molecular genetics (ii) production of transgenic plants (especially transformation of tomato plants) (iii) transient expression of genes in plants (iv) expression of plant genes in heterologous systems (e.g. bacteria, yeast, xenopus oocytes) (v) microscopy / subcellular protein localisation.
