The Department of Biochemistry was started in 1994. In a short span of time the Department has made rapid strides in teaching and research. Now the Department offers 2 year M.Sc. Biochemistry, M.Sc. Biotechnology programs and a 5 year integrated M.Sc. Biotechnology program. In addition to this it offers M.Phil and Ph.D. programs. The major areas of research in the Department include free radicals and antioxidant defence systems, analysis of medicinal utilities of natural products for the treatment of diabetes, heart disease, hepatotoxicity, cancer and for radioprotection. Applications are invited upto 12th MARCH 2010 for one post of Scientist C under ICMR Research Cadre at Vector Control Research Centre, Puducherry in the Pay Band scale of Rs.15,600-39,100 + Grade Pay of Rs.6600 and other allowances as admissible under Government of India Rules.
Essential Qualification:
(i) First Class Master’s Degree in Zoology/Entomology/Life Science
(ii) Four years of R & D experience in the area of Vector biology, ecology and control of vectors/vector borne diseases, after obtaining essential qualification .
Desirable :
(i)Doctorate Degree in Zoology/Entomology/Life Science for candidates having First Class Master’s Degree.
Experience: Experience in conducting studies on vectors of medical / public health importance with reference to bionomics, biology and ecology for understanding vector borne disease transmission dynamics and for designing vector control strategies; Organizing National/International training programmes on Vectors and Vector Borne Diseases.
(ii) Additional Post doctoral research/teaching experience in relevant subjects in recognized Institute(s).
