The IMPRS for Environmental, Cellular and Molecular Microbiology is a graduate school offering an international PhD program and excellent research possibilities for young scientists. Research areas covered are:
Biogeochemistry
Cellular microbiology
Microbial biochemistry
Microbial ecology
Molecular ecology
Molecular microbiology
Parasitology
Plant-microbe interactions
Plant pathogens
How to Apply :
- Your application must include the following documents:
- A complete and signed application form (for a download, see below) including a portrait photo (passport size). Please fill out in English. Send the completed form by airmail or surface mail to the IMPRS coordination office.
- The school-leaving certificate giving the right of entry to higher education in the applicant’s home country
- All university certificates and transcripts (for all academic degrees)
- Copy of the original diploma / certificate of graduation
- Two letters of recommendation – the use of our reference request form (for a download, see below) is obligatory
- Non-native English speakers have to supply proof of English language competence by submitting a test score from an internationally acknowledged English language test (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS,CAE). Alternatively, proven studies conducted in English (for at least 2 years), or certificates demonstrating sufficient language ability and training, are acceptable.

Selection & Admission :
Only complete applications which have arrived at the IMPRS office by January 15th 2010 will be considered for admission. Applications are evaluated by the admissions committee based on scientific competence, merit and the letters of recommendation. Incomplete applications or applications received after the closing date will not be considered.
To reach a decision with regard to short-listing, other selection procedures may be applied as well, such as telephone interviews, and/or the submission of a research proposal on a given research topic. Candidates who are eventually nominated for the shortlist will be invited directly for an on-site interview in Marburg (travel expenses will be covered by the Research School); alternatively, a video interview may be conducted.
