Genomics & Transcriptomics Course (with hands-on sessions) IBAB Shodhaka ,Bangalore

Duration: one week (1 – 7 Feb 2010)

Venue: Shodhaka-IBAB, Biotech Park, Electronic city, Phase I, Bengalooru – 560 100

Organized jointly by IBAB and Shodhaka

Main contents of the workshop:

A. Genomics:
1. Genome projects: History, current status and future.
2. Genomic elements and their significance.
3. Genome sequencing technologies.
4. Major web-resources for sequence analysis and gene ontology.
5. Hands on sessions in applying the bioinformatics resources.

B. Transcriptomics:
1. Microarray applications and new technologies for gene expression analysis
2. Gene expression databases and hands on exercises.
3. Exercises in microarray data processing
4. Software/platforms dealing with promoters and TFs and hands on exercises.
5. Illustration of equipment used for microarray, real time PCR and 2-D electrophoresis.
6. Primer and probe designing for simple vs. genome-wide profiling studies
7. An overview of proteomics and the relations with genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics
8. Actual research examples in transcriptomics

Notes:
1. Credits across different modules and sub-modules, conducted at times can be added to obtain a ‘diploma in bioinformatics’. These modular programs at IBAB are recognized and supported by the DIT, Government of India, which has recognized IBAB as a ‘CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE in Bioinformatics Research and Training’.
2. Please note that the hands-on sessions are not for wet-lab components; they rather focus on case studies in silico.

Eligibility: Any degree holder with life science background

Fees (do not include travel, accommodation and food charges; these charges will have to be borne separately by the participants)

Individuals from company: Rs.12,000/-

For students, academic professionals and unemployed youth: Rs.7000/-
