As of today, India grants a prestigious and a lucrative career in the field of life sciences. India started undertaking new life sciences development projects in order to improve the quality of life. Life Sciences are all sciences that have to do with organisms, like plants, animals and human beings.

Caterpillar

The main Life Sciences are: Botany, Microbiology, Zoology & Biology. Life scientists study the behavior of living things and explain how living things are being related to one another and to their surroundings. This is only one of the many ways life science is used in the world.

The Department of Science and Technology (DST) was set up by the Government of India to promote new areas of science and technology. It plays a vital role by organizing, coordinating, supporting, promoting and overseeing scientific research activities in the country. The objective of these organizations is not only to develop new products, but also aspire to develop science research skills and support the qualified researchers.

These institutions provide good opportunities & jobs in India to the qualified scientists with research degrees. Indian Research institutions provide opportunities to visit foreign laboratories, participate in international seminars and a respectable remuneration and life standards. During the sixth pay commission the Indian government has given stipend increment for the research scholars in life sciences area.

Most of the Indian universities offer the basic biological science degree courses, but physiology, anatomy, marine biology/science, ecology, food science or wildlife biology courses are available at postgraduate level in only a few universities. Biotechnology, forensic science and bioinformatics are the new directions in the life sciences.

The Joint CSIR-UGC Test for Junior Research Fellowship and Eligibility for Lectureship held twice a year in the months of June and December in the Life Sciences can lead to opportunities in research with a fellowship in premier institutions and lectureship in universities across the country. A doctorate degree from a nationally reputed institution would enhance placement and advancement prospects in India.

Following is the list of top institutions in India which offer a fantabulous life science career:-

Tata Institute of Fundamental Research

National Centre for Biological Sciences

Institute of Life Sciences

National Centre for Plant Genome Research

National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health

Institute of Life Sciences

Dr B R Ambedkar Centre for Biomedical Research

Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD)

Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology

Institute of Microbial Technology

Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology

Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research

Moreover, Indian companies have great potent to be involved in the field of clinical research. According to a recent study, clinical research activities in India have been estimated to touch two billion dollars by the end of 2010. The twentieth century has been a period of exciting maturation for biology, and many believe that the 21st century will be a “golden age” for biology. Even though there are lots of progresses still there is a great need for organized research and development in the field of life sciences in India.
