There is an International Conference on Frontiers in Molecular Life Sciences: Sailing towards New Horizons organized by Institute of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IBMBB), University of Colombia to be held on September 17th (Thursday) and 18th (Friday), 2009.
Highlights of the conference include keynote speech by Prof. Ulf Pettersson from Department of Genetics and Pathology, University of Uppsala, Sweden on Genome Diversity in Health and Disease and Prof. Janet Hemingway from Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, United Kingdom on Molecular Mechanism of Insecticide Resistance.
About IBMBB
Institute of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IBMBB) is an Educational and Research Institute working as part of University of Colombo. IBMBB provides postgraduate specializations on Molecular Life Sciences, Molecular Biology and Cellular and Molecular Immunology. Ongoing research areas at IBMBB includes parasitic diseases such as filariasis and malaria aimed at finding novel drug /vaccine targets, genetic studies on vector mosquitoes, genes predisposing to breast cancer, studies aimed at identifying predictors of low birth weight and pregnancy complications, medicinal plants used against cancer, inflammatory diseases and malaria, genetic studies on rice, tea, rubber, mustard, finger millet etc aimed at identifying markers for disease resistance, drought/salt tolerance or for improving quality.
