Job Description
Conduct discovery research in the area of plant hormone biology with the focus on dissecting and understanding of auxin sensing and signal transduction.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform plant mutant library screening and gene isolation. Examine the functionality of mutant genes using biochemical or transgenic approach.
- Plan and conduct molecular and biochemical experiments to collect, document, analyze, and summarize molecular information of transgenic events.
- Coordinate with other groups, in particular, greenhouse staff, to plant transgenic materials and obtain necessary plant materials for analysis.
- In consultation with supervisor, act as Principal Investigator to design next experiments and obtain results in a timely manner.
- Manage laboratory equipments, experimental materials, laboratory notebooks, data collection and analysis.
- Communicate results with supervisor on a regular basis. Summarize and report results at group meetings, advisory committee meetings, and other scientific meetings.
- Maintain effective communication with group members and other appropriate teams or individuals within the company. Keep abreast of current literature related to auxin biology and formulate working hypothesis to address specific questions.
- May organize and supervise work of laboratory assistants to ensure safety and work efficiency.
- Educational Qualifications Desired PhD in plant molecular biology, biochemistry, and/or molecular geneticsor scientific field and minimum of 2 to 4 years of related experience or equivalent amounts of relevant education and experience preferred. Masters degree in an agriculture or scientific field and minimum of 6 to 8 years of industry related experience required, or equivalent amount of relevant education and experience. Post doctoral experience may serve as experience.
- Competencies and Experience Desired Must have good proficiency in standard molecular biology techniques (DNA and RNA manipulations, vector construction, PCR, qPCR, Southern blot analysis, library construction, gene cloning, Western analysis).
- Hands-on experience working with recombinant protein and protein-protein interactions is desirable. Prior experience working with mutant library screening and gene isolation is ideal.
- Experience and/or knowledge of plant hormone signal transduction are highly desired.
- Ability to plan and execute experiments independently.
- High level of organization, ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, sensitivity to cultural diversity, project leadership and innovation.
- Ability to collaborate and interact effectively with individuals across research areas and in team environments.
- Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience with standard computer software packages and basic bioinformatics tools.
