Postdoctoral Position – Bioinformatics – United Kingdom
Postdoctoral Position in Bioinformatics available at University of Oxford.
A full-time post for three years in the first instance funded by King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) – Global Research Programme (GRP) is available as soon as practicable. The role of this position is to contribute to the wheat project titled Crop-plant domestication in the genome-biology era. This exciting multidisciplinary project combines cutting edge genomic science, bioinformatic data analysis and classical plant genetics to answer important questions concerning the evolution and adaptation of wheat, the world’s major food crop.
Who can Apply?
- Ph.D./ D.Phil in Genetics, Bioinformatics, Statistics or Computer Science.
- Ability to conceptually span the disciplines of ‘classical’ plant genetics, high-throughput pyrosequencing technology and bioinformatic analyses and to communicate that understanding to group members expert in other disciplines.
- Skills in one or several programming/scripting languages (Perl, Python, Tcl, C/C++, Pascal, R) and experience in database programming (eg. MySQL), together with practical experience of genome annotation and evolutionary bioinformatics.
- Skills in genomic database handling, bioinformatic search algorithms and statistical analysis tools (e.g. MatLab, S-Plus, SAS) to further the aims of the project.
