SUMMER RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME AT NIT, ROURKELA IN ENGINEERING AND SCIENCE

NIT, Rourkela has launched a Summer Internship Programme with an objective to encourage ambitious bright B.Tech. as well as B.Sc. and M.Sc. students of different Institutes in India other than NIT, Rourkela to pursue an innovative research and development project under the guidance of NIT faculties. The summer fellow will register at NIT, Rourkela for whom there will be no institute registration fees. The Institute is pleased to provide 50 nos. of Summer Fellowships as follows.

The fellowship will cover the following:
(a) A gross fellowship of Rs.3500/-, for a period of two months to meet travel and other expenses. The fellowship will be provided to those, who stay in NITR hostels.
(b) Free Accommodation in the NIT Halls of Residences.
(c) Laboratory and Computing Facilities.

The fellowship is available in the following departments.

Any B.Tech., B.Sc or M.Sc. student with a good academic record who has completed 2 or 3 years of study toward engineering or science degree may apply for this fellowship.

The National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) has been established by the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. It is located on the campus of University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore.
The mandate of NCBS is basic research in the frontier areas of biology. Research Fellowships In Plant Taxonomy, M S Swaminathan Research Foundation Kerala

Applications are invited from Indian students for the MSSRF-Dorabji Tata Trust Fellowship in the area of Plant taxonomy for three years (2010-2012).

Eligibility and Placement : Applicants should be Post Graduate degree holders in Botany with willingness to work in difficult terrains. The Candidates will be selected based on their academic brilliance and knowledge on classification, distribution, ecology, conservation status, and utilization prospects of plant wealth of the Western Ghats of India.

Fellowships : Fellowships for three years are available in the discipline Systematic Botany- a dying, but vital science for addressing the issue of species extinction and conservation. The Fellows will have to be involved in an integrated conservation mission of saving 80 – RET (Rare, Endemic & Threatened) plant species of Southern Western Ghat region of India.

Selection of Fellows : The Fellows will be selected through a written test cum interview to be held at M S Swaminathan Research Foundation’s Community Agrobiodiversity Centre (CAbC) in Kerala during February 2010. The selected Fellows will be placed at CAbC, Wayanad and will be encouraged to register for Ph. D.

Applications are invited from Indian nationals for the award of “DBT-Postdoctoral Fellowship” (5 Nos. and likely to change) for pursuing research in frontier areas of Biotechnology and applied Biology. The fellowship is tenable at UoH-DBT Centre for Education and Research in Biology and Biotechnology, (CREBB) School of Life Sciences, University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad 500046,

Eligibility: Ph.D. degree in Science, or M.D. or M.S.

Note: Persons with publications in reputed scientific journals will be given preference.Those who have already submitted this is Ph.D./M.D./M.S. thesis may also apply. The applicants should preferably be below the age of 40 years, and 45 years in case of women
candidates. Persons already employed should apply through their employers.

Details Of The Award:
The Postdoctoral fellowship is a purely temporary assignment and is tenable for a period of 2 years. In exceptional cases, depending upon the progress of the research, the fellowship may be extended, subject to availability of grant. Selected fellows, will be paid Rs.15,000 per month (except those who are not yet awarded Ph.D. degree). The fellows would also be entitled to HRA as per the DBT guidelines.The fellowship is likely to be revised, after getting the approval of DBT.

Duties & Commitment:
Candidates selected for the award are required to stay with the center for a minimum period of one year, failing which they may be required to refund the fellowship amount. The selected candidates are expected to participate in the academic activities of the center besides conducting research under the guidance of a faculty member.

Mode Of Selection And Application:
The candidates will be selected based on their C.V., publication record and performance in the interview. The interview will be held at the office of the Dean, School of Life Sciences, University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad- 500046, India. No reimbursement will be made towards their travel allowance. If the candidate accepts the fellowship, he/she must join the University within a month’s time. Candidates may submit their application on a plain paper along with bio-data, list of publications (attach reprints of 2 important papers), copies of certificates (B.Sc./ M.Sc/Ph.D./M.D./M.S.), one page synopsis of their thesis, 2 letters of recommendation (academic). The applicant is advised to propose a research project, compatible with the on-going research in School of Life Sciences availing the fellowship. The applications along with necessary enclosures should reach Prof. A.S. Early/ Senior Career Fellowships for Biomedical Scientists in India given by Wellcome Trust (UK)/ Department of Biotechnology (India) Alliance.

Fellowships are available across the full spectrum of biomedical research – from fundamental molecular and cellular studies through to clinical and public health research. Research projects can be based in the laboratory, the clinic or the field and may involve experimental or theoretical approaches.

Early Career Fellowships

Candidates must be in Final year Ph.D. studies or have no more than one year of postdoctoral research experience from the date of Ph.D. viva to the full application submission deadline. Time spent outside the research environment will be taken into consideration.
Fellowship is for four years full time and provides - personal support for the fellow, research expenses, additional allowances for scientifically justified visits of normally up to 12 months.
Candidates must have an eligible sponsoring institution in India that will administer the fellowship for the full duration of the award.

Senior Fellowships

Candidates should have between 5 and 10 years research experience at a postdoctoral level or clinical equivalent and have a substantial record of publications in your chosen area of research in leading international journals.
Candidates need not be Indian nationals but must already be pursuing or intending to pursue an academic research career in India.
Candidates must have an eligible sponsoring institution in India that will administer the fellowship for the full duration of the award. If the host institution has not completed an eligibility check, further information will be requested if a full application is invited.
