Short Term Training Program-Karunya University-Coimbatore
Short Term Training Program On Structural And Medical Bioinformatics, Karunya University Coimbatore
Introduction:Karunya University was founded with the noble vision to raise professionals and leaders of high academic calibre and unblemished character, nurtured with a strong motivation and commitment to serve humanity. It is located 25 kilometres away from Coimbatore in the very bosom of mother nature. The Department of Bioinformatics in Karunya University was started in the year 2005. The objective is to provide excellent teaching, learning, including practical training, research facilities and consultancy services in the frontier areas of Bioinformatics. The department is offering B.Tech, M.Tech,. M.Phil and Ph.D in Bioinformatics.
About The Training Program:
Research in the Structural Bioinformatics focuses on the recognition of proteins and small molecules. Studying protein-protein interactions is crucial for a better understanding of processes such as metabolic control, signal transduction and gene regulation, whereas the ability to dock small ligands (drug molecule) to proteins is the key to rational drug and vaccine design strategies. Structural bioinformatics also deals with computational methods to explore the relationship between structure and function in enzymes and proteins. Another area where Structural Bioinformatics deals is computer simulations which allow proteins to ‘come alive’ – that is, we can simulate the motions of proteins and use this to explore the relationship between (static) structure and dynamic function. This is relevant to a number of areas ranging from biomedicine to nanotechnology. Read more
