Background :
The Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt of India has been pleased to set up Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility (BIF) in the Gauhati University, Guwahati Assam in February; 2008.The centre is a member of Northeastern Bioinformatics network (NEBInet) and Biotechnology Information System Network (BTISnet).The Centre’s facilities include dedicated lease line Internet connectivity from BSNL, DELL servers with DELL PCs with LINUX and Microsoft Windows operating system, HP Printers, Xerox etc. and major Bioinformatics tools.

Objectives
The objective of the training is to empower the teachers, researchers and students for organizing biodiversity database, its management and interlinking on the web. Course Contents of the Training CourseDatabase creation, management, storage and retrieval, Application of softwares in Database management with special reference on biodiversity, Biolological databases.

Faculty
Faculty for the Training Course will include eminent guest speakers from Gauhati University and neighbouring institutions working in the field of Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology and Structural Biology.

Methodology
Lectures, Demos, Hands on Session and Workshop.

Level of participants
Faculty, Research Scholars and students of Life Sciences.

Prerequisites
Knowledge of biodiversity and computer operation.

Number of participants
Number of participants will be restricted to 15.

Accommodation
Participants are requested to arrange their own accommodation.

Location
The University Campus is 12 km away from the Guwahati Railway Station and 10km from Guwahati Airport.
